Happy Birthday, Edgar Allan Poe!

Lynda Thompson of the QuiltArt List organized a Raven Challenge to honor the January 200th birthday celebration of Edgar Allan Poe. The theme was "raven", and the parameters were a 4x6" postcard size. Above is my interpretation of "Nevermore", a mixed-media fiberart postcard, using acrylic paints and thread painting on cotton fabric. Click on the picture for a more detailed image.

An additional element of the challenge was the opportunity to contribute our postcards to Virginia Spiegel's Collage Mania, a part of her Fiberarts for a Cause, which has raised over $165,000 so far for the American Cancer Society. Since this is a cause near and dear to my heart, this little postcard is of course going directly to Collage Mania for sale. More about it later ... it won't be until May of this year, and I can't wait!

Thank you, Lynda, for organizing this challenge, and Virginia for giving my "Nevermore" a way to contribute to FFAC!

  1. Thanks Mary Ann for your erudite Comment, LOL! Actually, something must have been wrong with Blogger Comments, and I'm testing to see if this goes through correctly. Thanks for trying, anyway! ;^)

  2. oooooooo Linda! It's wonderful! wow. I have a special place in my heart for Mr. Poe as he and I share a birthday :D

One of my favorite rock albums was The Alan Parson's Project Tales of Mystery and Imagination. I always thought Mr. Poe would have appreciated it greatly.

  4. Your raven is fabulous! I love the way you did the shading on his beak (it looks so three dimensional) and all that stitching in the feathers. A wonderful little piece.
