Gyotaku fish printing
While at a FiberVoices meeting last week, my friend Susan gave us a little impromptu workshop on Gyotaku fish printing. Here is the result of my first (and, so far, only) fish print. He's not perfect (he seems to have a double-chin), but I love him anyway. Thank you, Susan!
No, we didn't use real fish! You can buy rubber fish (cast from real fish) and other critters from Dick Blick Art Supply, as well as other places, I'm sure.

Looking good.
ReplyDeleteLooks great - how did you do this? I have one of those rubber fish, waiting patiently in storage ... I love it done on black. Please share...
ReplyDeleteChimo,
Jennifer Cooper
Thanks, Mary Ann, and Jennifer. Susan set out some of her Tsukineko inks to let us try with a small scruffy paintbrush to add in additional details once the fish was printed on black fabric. The detail-painting made all the difference ... and so much fun!
ReplyDeleteNow... wait, didn't you print a fish on an ATC in Jane Davila's Make-it U last fall?

LOL! You're right, and so funny, Diane! But that little tiny fish didn't make nearly the impression on me that the bigger one did! In fact, I just recently re-discovered that teeny-tiny little ATC with the Gyotaku print on it ... maybe I'll incorporate it into something with the Big Fish. Did you do anything further with yours?
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to try this...you've inspired me!
ReplyDeleteThis is just way too cool! i have heard of it but have never tried it.
ReplyDeleteI even saved all the less than good impressions I made. They are in the stash on the top of my desk. May turn up some day in something. So bigger is better yet again?
ReplyDeleteSo happy to read about your new frame, too. Congrats, You Sew, Girl!
